Ayurvedic Daily Routine and Beauty Tips to Increase Fairness and Glow

Ayurveda acharyas recommend to follow ayurvedic daily routine or dinacharya and ayurvedic seasonal routine (ritucharya) to keep body and mind healthy. While describing dinacharya they have mentioned valuable advices to enhance skin health and improve its glow. A good glowing skin is indication of a healthy person.

Let Water be your Medicine

Drink a glass of water early morning as soon as you brush your teeth. Water stored in copper vessel (copper water) is more beneficial. Add a tea spoon of honey and 1/4 tea spoon of lemon juice to this water. (Read lemon and honey for weight loss ) It helps to detox skin by supplying vitamin C and also aids in weight loss.

It is very important to maintain body hydration level. Drink around three liters of water spread over day. In between drink 3 to 4 glasses of warm water. This acts as a  very good ayurvedic skin detox.

Take bath in warm water. Very hot water can damage skin. A quick shower is always advisable than long ones.

Massage your body with ayurvedic oils

Ayurveda recommends abhyanga or massage to keep skin healthy.  Massage body with sesame oil or ksheerabala oil  twice in a week. If this is not possible at least do it once in a week. These oils nourish skin and prevent occurrence of dry skin. (read Ayurvedic Treatment and Remedies for Dry Skin) . Massage improves blood circulation and eliminates the toxins. Oil massage prevents formation of wrinkles and slows down ageing process.

Chose your soap carefully

Use mild soaps which contain glycerin. Soaps which have herbal extracts like neem and tulsi protect the skin from infection. Persons who suffer from skin conditions like dry skin, psoriasis, eczema etc have to avoid soaps. Instead they can use gram flour (besan flour). You can also prepare a ayurvedic body scrub using natural ingredients.

After bath pat dry skin with a soft cotton towel. Do not rub the skin vigorously. This may damage the skin.

Use a good moisturiser

Apply moisturizer all over the body. Select a good moisturizer which does not contain alcohol. Select the moisturiser which suits your skin type.

Be kind to your facial skin

Use minimum make up. Do not change brands frequently. Stick to one brand which suits your skin and pocket. Apply sun screen lotion to the exposed skin, if you are going out in sun. Always use an umbrella or a  cap with shade to protect your facial skin. Carry an umbrella, wear sun glasses and cap with shade – if you go out in harsh weather conditions.

Remove your make up before going to bed. Wash your skin with mild face wash.Do not apply anything when you go to sleep. Allow your skin to breath.

An Ayurvedic Diet for Glowing Skin

Include fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. Plenty of fruits and vegetables supply fibers which help in healthy bowel movement. Evacuating bowel in morning is always healthy and keeps the toxins at bay. Constipation diminishes the glow of skin. Avoid regular consumption of processed foods, junk foods, oily foods, sweets, chocolates and ice creams.

Ayurvedic Exercises to keep skin glowing

Exercise regularly. Texts of ayurveda recommend vyayaama or exercises to keep body and skin healthy.  Walking is the best type of exercise. A brisk walk for 45 minutes daily is a very effective and easy exercise. Deep breathing exercise (pranayama) for 15 minutes have to be included in skin care routine for better results. Pranayama helps to reduce stress. Stress is the major cause for early aging of skin. If time permits practice Yoga and Meditation.

Do not sit for long hours. Reduce usage of electronic gadgets like computer and smart phones.

Avoid soda, coffee, tea, alcohol, tobacco and smoking. Instead switch over to healthy herbal teas made from ginger, cinnamon, amla, triphala etc. Take good sleep at night for at least 6 hours. Skin repairs and rejuvenates itself when you take a good sleep. A good sleep prevents formation of dark circles.

Include Turmeric in ayurvedic skin care routine

Turmeric (haldi) is eulogised as kanchani or the herb which gives golden glow to skin. It acts as a liver detox and flushes out toxins. It is the best liver and skin rejuvenator. Use turmeric in daily diet . It can be added to face pack. Turmeric when added to face pack helps to prevent acne and pimple. It reduces scars and improves skin fairness and glow.  In ayurveda dinacharya or daily routine, it is recommended to drink turmeric milk at night before going to bed.

Ayurvedic Herbs for Daily Skin Care

You can use ayurvedic herbs which are easily available in your daily skin care routine. Here are few examples for that.

  1. Wash your face with triphala water. (triphala contains amalaki (amla or Indian gooseberry), Haritaki and Vibhitaki ) . This water helps in oily skin and normal skin ayurvedic care.
  2. Drink Sariva or Anatmool tea for glowing skin.
  3. Use home made ayurvedic body scrub and oats facial scrub.
  4. Apply Castor Oil on eye lids and under eye. This helps to get rid of dark circles under eyes.
  5. Drink Tender coconut water once in 2 days.
