Tomato is an edible fruit and belongs to nightshade family or Solanaceae. It is almost sour to taste. Tomato is a rich source of vitamins (vitamins A and C), anti oxidants and folic acid. Tomatoes contain an important pigment “lycopene”. This pigment is responsible for red colour of tomatoes. Lycopene has attracted the attention of researchers due to its antioxidant properties. Prevents Cancer – Various studies have revealed that tomatoes can help to prevent various cancers. They can lower the risk of cancers especially cancers of the prostate, lung, and stomach. Scientists are trying to find the role of lycopene in prevention of cancer.
Antiageing : Tomatoes have high concentrations of antioxidants. These antioxidants help to prevent cellular damage caused due to free radicals. Regular consumption of this fruit helps to slow down aging process.
Diabetes: High fiber content and presence of chromium in tomatoes help to reduce blood sugar level. The antioxidants in this fruit are known to prevent occurrence of age related diabetes.

How to consume tomato: Never eat tomatoes with cucumber, dairy products, melon and yogurt. These combinations constitute opposite foods and pave way for accumulation of toxins. Persons who can digest tomatoes without any discomfort can eat them raw or drink as juice. Don’t forget to add a dash of powdered pepper and cumin seeds while consuming raw tomatoes.
